Our Story

Built by Families,
for Individuals with Special Needs

Special Needs Sources was created by parents raising individuals with special needs, who lived the frustration of searching for California services and coming up empty. We built the free directory we wished had existed for our own families.

Where It Started

We Know This Journey Firsthand

This directory was not built in a boardroom. It was built at a kitchen table by parents who spent nights searching for therapy providers, recreational programs, and local services for the individuals with special needs in their own families, and found nothing organized, nothing local, and nothing clear.

Family supporting an individual with special needs in the community

We have individuals with special needs in our own families. We have sat in IEP meetings, navigated California Regional Center paperwork, and called provider after provider only to hear they are not taking new clients, they do not accept our funding, or they are too far away.

We knew other families were going through the same thing, and we knew there had to be a better way to connect them with the businesses and programs that genuinely want to serve this community.

So we built Special Needs Sources, starting in the Inland Empire and expanding across California. Every listing, every category, and every feature on this site was shaped by real experiences from real families.

“No family should spend hours searching for services their loved one needs right now. We built this so the answer is one search away.”

Our Mission

What We Are Here to Do

Every individual with special needs deserves access to the services, programs, and community that help them live a fuller life. We exist to make finding those California resources as straightforward as possible.

A Directory Built on Real Need

Hundreds of thousands of Californians are connected to one of the 21 California Regional Centers, navigating the Self-Determination Program, or simply looking for a local business that understands their situation.

Special Needs Sources gives those families one organized, searchable place to find therapy providers, recreational activities, independent living skills programs, educational support, and more, filtered by location and category.

  • Free for every family to search, always
  • Businesses reviewed before going live
  • Organized by category and service area
  • Built with input from real special needs families
  • Expanding across California as the community grows
